MS Dhoni has been named the Chennai Super Kings’ captain for the Indian Premier League 2023. On Sunday, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan verified the news. It is hardly surprising given Dhoni’s influence in the CSK camp after assisting them in becoming one of the most successful clubs in the cash-rich league. Here in this article, we talk about who has been named the Chennai Super Kings captain in IPL 2023.

“There is no change in our stance. We never said that there will be a change,” Kasi told, emphasizing that Dhoni will remain captain of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 as well. Chennai has won the title four times under Dhoni, the most recent being IPL 2021.

It is worth noting that Dhoni gave up the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja prior to the start of the IPL 2022 season. However, the team struggled under the new leadership, as CSK lost six of their eight matches.

Jadeja returned the captaincy reins to Dhoni, who assumed captaincy duties for the remainder of the season in the best interests of the team.

But, more crucially, Dhoni’s participation in the IPL 2023 has been confirmed by the franchise CEO. His availability for the upcoming IPL season is constantly in doubt at the end of the previous two IPL seasons. He usually implies a return, but does not specify whether it will be in the form of a player, a member of the coaching staff, or anything else.

With him at the lead since last season, one may expect CSK to rebound from a disappointing IPL season. There is genuine admiration for Dhoni among the CSK players and management. Aside from that, he is a major fan favourite, and everyone refers to him as Thala, which means “leader.”

The team has always performed best when the IPL is played in a home-and-away format. The same format is set to be used in IPL 2023, making it exciting for all eight teams, particularly Dhoni and his guys. Chennai has become as a formidable opponent, particularly on their home field at Chidambaram Stadium.

What happens to Jadeja, on the other hand, will be fascinating to see. According to rumours in recent months, the former captain and CSK are not on speaking terms following the IPL 2022. The all-rounder has also erased his social media posts. Jadeja also withdrew from the IPL at the end of the season, citing injury.
