In 2001, Australia reached the Indian shores, winning 15 of their previous Test matches. The visitors had comfortably won the series opener. Under the leadership of Steve Waugh, the Australian team has proved it’s best in the international cricket fraternity.

During the test match, Australia dominated the first two days of the second Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But soon, the tide of Fortune had turned towards India.

The tourists had batted first and scored 445 runs behind their captain’s century. Unfortunately, India was bowled out for 171 in the first innings. With a 274-run lead, Waugh urged the hosts to follow-on. However, what happened next has permanently changed the Indian cricket angle.

In the second innings, the Indian cricket team saw some fruitful partnerships. VVS Laxman scored his highest Test score of 281 runs, and this is the highest individual score by any Indian batsman in Test cricket. Rahul Dravid had scored 180 runs. The pair set up a fantastic partnership and, in fact, batted throughout the entire day of the Test. India announced on the final day 657 to set a target of 384 for Australia.

Rahul Dravid, Sachin, and Ganguly celebrated the Fear:

Harbhajan Singh, who had taken seven wickets including a hat-trick in the first innings, gave India a memorable victory by winning the game by 171 runs in the second innings. This was the third time a team had won a Test match after implementing the follow-on.

By then, Sourav Ganguly was a young captain, and in later years Indian cricket is what it is today. Experts often refer to this Test match as the turning point in Indian cricket history. Recently, an old video is shared by a fan.

In the video, Indian players can be seen celebrating after the Kolkata Test win. Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sourav Ganguly are seen opening the champagne bottles. After watching the video, Ganguly also responded and recalled the historic victory. “What a success,” Ganguly tweeted by recalling the old days.

India beat Australia in the third Test of the series in Chennai. They won the series 2-1 and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
