Joyful news for all the bowlers, as they can now ball 2 bouncers in an over. With the ICC is still striking to allowed one bouncer in an over in T20Is, BCCI has tried the rule recently in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy (SMAT), and it is now applicable in Indian Premier League also.

Smart Replay System

The IPL is set to introduce the highly popular system that is – Smart Replay System. This new rule will benefit the on-field umpire the most, as previously he needs to rely on TV broadcast director, who used to provide umpire the information from TV umpire and then from Hawk-eye operators.

However, with the inclusion of the new system, the TV broadcast director is no longer required, as both the TV umpire and 2 Hawk-eye operators will sit in one room, and the hawk-eye system operators will directly provide information to the TV umpire by using eight high-speed Hawk-eye cameras, which will make the decision making easy and fast.

Catch Review for stumping Referrals

The BCCI has also backed their rule of checking for a catch before stumping referrals, which differs from ICC’s rule. But the BCCI felt that not verifying a catch before stumping seemed unfair to the fielding team.

No Stop Clock

ICC has recently adopted the no stop clock rule which says the teams need to start the next over in 60-second window, ensuring a timely completion of the match. The rule will be applicable in all white-ball cricket games.

However, the no stop clock will not be included in the Indian Premier League.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play the opening game of the Indian Premier League at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22, 2024.

CSK, under the leadership of MS Dhoni won the IPL title last year.
