Stuart Broad Retirement we look at 3 striking images of Stuart Broad’s career:

#1 The six-sixes saga

Stuart Broad was at the receiving end of Yuvraj Singh’s shining blade in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Andrew Flintoff had irked Yuvraj and the left-hander vented it out against Broad. He smashed 6 sixes in a single over leaving Broad and England team in tatters. Yuvraj broke several T20 records in that knock which continue to remain unbroken to date. Such was the impact of his six-sixes but Broad braved that storm and has shown how he worked his way around that low point.

#2 The overthrow that resulted in a loss against the Netherlands

Stuart Broad and T20 World Cup had some special connection. England was the host of the second edition of the tournament in 2009. The home side was up against fellow European nation, Netherlands in the round-robin stage. England might have expected to roll over the Dutch easily but the spirited Dutch side shocked the home team. It came down to the last ball and the Netherlands needed two of the final delivery.

Broad was the bowler tasked with the final over. The batter hit the ball right back to Broad and the batters started running across. Broad could have chosen the safer option of not throwing at the stumps and taking the game to the super over. But a rush of blood saw him throwing the ball down and he missed the target. The Dutch ran two and posted a historic win. Broad was at the center of it all!

#3 The hattrick at Nottingham

India looked good to level the series at Nottingham in 2011 in the second Test after losing the first one. At 117-7, India had England on the mat. Enter Stuart Broad at number 9. He smashed a quick-fire 64 off just 66 balls taking the score to a respectable 221. In reply, India was in a position of strength at 267-4. It was once again Stuart Broad who dismantled India in a single spell of quality seam bowling.

Broad picked a hattrick claiming wickets of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, and Praveen Kumar. India lost their last 6 wickets for 21 runs. Broad finished with figures of 6-46. He singlehandedly ensured that India can’t win the series as they lost the 2nd Test too. India eventually suffered a whitewash 0-4. Broad played a major role in England usurping India as the number-one-ranked Test team.
