Steve Smith Is Back In No.1 Position – Virat Slips Out

Former Australian skipper Steve Smith has been spotted at No.1 position in the ICC Test Ranking for Batsmen where the Indian Captain Virat Kohli is dropped down to No.2.

Indian skipper who has made 76 in the first innings of the second test against West Indies, edged his first ball from Kemar Roach in the second innings to the wicket-keeper and was dismissed for a golden duck. In spite of three tests went on this year, he is yet to make his 25 test hundreds.

Smith who has missed his third Ashes test due to concussion, was a point ahead of the Indian Captain and will look to extend the lead in the next match which is going to start from Wednesday.

Early, since December 2015 the former Aussie skipper has been the top in the list and only in 2018, where Smith was banned from international cricket due to sandal tampering,  Kohli overtook him after reaching career-high rating points in the series against England.

Coming to longer formats of cricket, Smith smashed consecutive centuries in the first test against England and went on with 92 in the second test. He has made a total of 6577 test runs with an average of 63.24 in the test cricket.

Moreover, Kohli and Co. made a clean sweep in the recently concluded two-match series against West Indies. Kohli who has made two half-centuries in the test is yet to make a ton. The Indian skipper will get a chance to challenge the Australian in the home test series against South Africa, starting on October 2.
