Women’s Asia Cup 2022 Final: India Restrict Srilanka for 65, Just A Step Away From 7th Title

SL-W Vs IND-W 1st Innings Update

The Final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 is on! India Women and Sri Lanka Women are fighting to show which team is the best in the continent. Going by the scenario, India takes the lead. The team has restricted Sri Lanka to just 65. They need 66 runs to chase to win the tournament. Let us look at SL-W Vs IND-W 1st Innings Update in detail.

Sri Lanka’s 1st innings fiasco

Sri Lanka Women won the toss and opted to bat first. This didn’t go right for them. The final performance by Sri Lanka with the bat was incredibly disappointing. As soon as skipper Chamari Athapaththu was run out in the third over, there was a procession out there. Despite making it through all 20 overs, this game is all but over with only 65 runs scored.

The batters seemed to have lost all control in front of the Indian side. There were only 2 double digits scores. Those were by O Ranasinghe and Ranaweera. They scored 12 and 18 respectively. Three batters got out on 6. There were 2 ducks as well. It was a poor show from Sri Lanka.

Incredible bowling by India

It’s the lowest total (batting first) ever in an Asia Cup final, thanks to the Indian bowlers’ comprehensive demolition of the opposition, which was sparked by Renuka Singh’s 3/5 spell early on. The spinners subsequently took control of the situation on a favorable pitch, and Sri Lanka offered almost no opposition.

Analysis

These two sides always faced off in the final when the competition was played in the 50-over format back in the 2000s, and India won all four of those matches. Sri Lanka never made it to the top two and it has taken them 14 years to gain another shot at the crown. While India went on to earn greater success in the following ten years as well. India was the early favourites in this contest. They possess the necessary weaponry and the outcomes to back it up.

We imagined Sri Lanka will undoubtedly challenge them as they did in the semifinal. They defeated Pakistan by a dramatic one-run margin. But this show is not something we expected from the side. This looks like a one-sided match from here on.

What the Players said:

Young Sneh Rana looked happy with team’s performance. She said, “Very happy to restrict them to 65, we have executed our plans well. She (Renuka) was brilliant and whatever she planned in the morning, she executed it and gave us a really good start today. It’s a turning track and really good for spinners.”
