Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, said she is enjoying the added responsibility of leading the team across formats ahead of their Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka on October 1 in Sylhet.

Harmanpreet’s recent good form is evidenced by the fact that she has scored 658 runs at an average of 73.11 in her last 13 ODIs. In the recently concluded ODI series against England, she also hit a superb 143 in Canterbury. During that time, she has also averaged a little more than 40 in the shortest format for India.

“Ever since I started playing cricket, responsibility is something I have enjoyed,” Harmanpreet said in the presser. “Leading the team is the biggest responsibility, and I am enjoying that.

“The coach, support staff, teammates, and BCCI are all grateful, and we’re all working together. You can achieve good results when you work as a team. I have complete support, and the emphasis has been on performance. I’ve told the team members that they have my support and that they should go express themselves, She continued.

Harmanpreet has also done well as a captain, leading India to a 3-0 ODI series win over England in their own backyard. In addition, it was India’s first ODI series victory in England since 1999. Under her leadership, India also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

We wanted to play good cricket when we went to England.

We did not put any pressure on ourselves to win or perform exceptionally well and were simply going through the motions. Our practice sessions were extremely analytical. Everything had been planned. We were working on something at the time, and when we went there, we had no intention of making history. We were not surprised by the outcome because we knew that if we worked as planned, results would follow.”

In contrast to Harmanpreet’s recent good form, India’s aggressive opener, Shefali Varma, has been in poor form. The opener has yet to score a fifty in T20Is this year and is averaging 19.83. Furthermore, Shefali scored only nine runs in three One-Day Internationals in England. Harmanpreet, on the other hand, sounded optimistic about Shefali’s return to form, noting that her teammate has been batting well in net sessions.

“She’s doing really well in the nets. It’s part of life to talk about her performance. Sometimes you play well, but you can’t keep it up when you’re in a match. But she’s in good shape. It’s just a matter of time before you regain your form after that lean period is over. She works hard every day “Harmanpreet explained.

Harmanpreet also stated that the think-tank would experiment with different combinations in preparation for the T20 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in February of next year. “We’ll be playing a lot of T20s in the coming months as the T20 World Cup approaches. We want to play more games in that format so that we can accumulate a large number of matches. That is the goal. Players who have not had enough match time can get more before the World Cup.”Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022.
