Pakistan Cricket Board is seemingly worried that their upcoming series with New Zealand might cease to start due to the negligence from the visiting squad. Six unnamed players from Pakistan’s 35-man squad were tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, November 26.
As per reports, Pakistani players were found guilty of breaking the NZ’s quarantine protocols while isolating for their upcoming tour. New Zealand’s board have apparently given a final warning to the Pakistani players which can result in the cancellation of the series.
Pakistan’s Respect and Pride is on the line
Citing to the issue, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO Wasim Khan has warned his side that they might be sent back to Pakistan if the team breaks one more protocol. Wasim Khan cautioned his side that there have been “three or four breachers of protocol” by the Pakistani national team by now and that the New Zealand government has handed the PCB a “final warning” before they take any serious action.
“Boys, I spoke to the New Zealand government and they told us there were three or four breaches of protocols. They have a zero-tolerance policy and they’ve given us a final warning. We understand that this is a difficult time for you, and you went through similar conditions in England,” Said Wasim Khan in a Whatsapp voice message to the players as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
“It’s not easy. But this is a matter of the nation’s respect and credibility. Observe these 14 days and then you’ll have the freedom to go to restaurants and roam about freely. They have told me in clear terms that if we commit one more breach, they’ll send us home,” he added.
Wasim Khan insisted his team to be aware as it is a matter of Pakistan’s pride. Khan, while stressing on the topic, said “This is a matter of national pride. It would be very embarrassing if they end up sending the team back. I know it’s very tough and difficult, but stay disciplined and follow the protocols they have set. We have no margin for error with the New Zealand government. This is a final warning. They will not compromise on health and safety. Do what’s right for your country.”
