Ravichandran Ashwin including three Australians Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals) and the duo of Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa (both Royal Challengers Bangalore) have pulled out their names from the ongoing season of VIVO IPL 2021 citing the rise of COVID-19 as the reason behind it. Delhi Capitals’ primary spinner Ashwin took Twitter to confirm his exit from the cash-rich tournament.

Ashwin stated “I would be taking a break from this years IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times. I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals”. However, the ace Indian spinner might return to play if things get fine in the future.
As for the Australians, they have every reason to opt-out of the tournament. Tye and the CSK-duo have not been used by their respective franchise. It makes sense for them to return to their home rather than staying under multiple bio-bubbles without playing a single game. Also, Australia might announce a national lockdown soon and it might restrict the following players from entering their country.
“I just thought to try and get on the front foot and get home before I got locked out of the country…think I’ve had 11 days at home out of the bubble since August, so for me I just wanted to get home,” Tye told ‘SEN Radio’ from Doha, the transit point before his flight to Perth.
