Jess Jonassen Out of AUS-W Squad for India Series

Legspinner Amanda-Jade Wellington has been called up to replace left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen, who will miss the rest of Australia’s T20I series against India due to a hamstring injury.

In the first T20I between Australia and India, which Australia won by nine wickets in Mumbai on Friday night. Jonassen suffered a right hamstring injury while fielding.

Jonassen’s injury would prevent her from playing in the remaining five games of the series. Australia’s physio Kate Beerworth announced on Sunday that she would return home to continue her treatment.

Speaking about the injury, Beerworth said. “Unfortunately Jess sustained a right hamstring strain while fielding during the match on Friday. She’s since been assessed. It is evident that the timeframes required for a return during this series are too short.

“Jess will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. She will return to Brisbane to continue her rehab.”

Despite a strong WBBL season in which she played a key role in Adelaide Strikers’ first championship, Wellington was not chosen for the India tour. The replacement, Wellington will reach Mumbai on Tuesday. The second Twenty20 International is played on Sunday night, and the third game is scheduled for Wednesday in Mumbai.

IND VS AUS: 2nd T20I

After kicking off their series opener with a victory, the visitors will want to maintain their momentum by taking the second game of the series on Saturday.

While India will try to make a great comeback to stay in the series. The area where the hosts need to concentrate the most is on their defence, where they were found to be poor during their run-defense time.

Australia hasn’t lost a game in any format yet this season, and they’re just proving it. With the ball, they weren’t at the top of their game, at least not in the final overs, but Mooney and McGrath made up for it with their batting. India must strengthen their deficiencies in order to recover. However, the turnaround time isn’t very long. On Sunday, the two sides will once more face off.
