Melbourne Stars sign Tom Rogers as replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell’s injury will prevent him from playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2022, therefore Melbourne Stars (MS) have signed Tom Rogers to fill Maxwell’s spot for the forthcoming season.

Rogers now all set to re-join the team for the BBL 2022–23 season after making his Stars debut last year.

“I’m thrilled to get another opportunity at this level and it’s great to be a part of the Stars again this season.”

What General Manager Blair Crouch has said about Tom Rogers’s inclusion?

“It’s great to have Tom back at the Stars and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do if he gets an opportunity.

“We’re looking forward to a great start to the tournament in Canberra and then a huge night at the MCG on December 16.”

Maxwell had surgery on November 13 after breaking his leg at a birthday celebration. He was disqualified from the ODI series against England and might not play in the BBL this year.

Adam Zampa to lead Melbourne Stars in BBL 12

Due to Maxwell’s unavailability he was replaced by Adam Zampa as skipper for Melbourne Stars.

The leg spinner joined the Stars in BBL 05 and has since developed a game of the highest calibre.

Zampa has been Australia’s top white ball spinner for some time, playing for his nation 119 times in ODIs and 72 times in T20 international matches.

With 82 career wickets for the Stars, Zampa is the team’s all-time leading wicket-taker and might participate in his 100th BBL match this year.

“It’s an honour to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn’s absence and I look forward to helping get the best out of this group. Our Stars journey won’t be complete without a BBL title and we’re throwing everything into this season to achieve that.

I’m so excited to be playing alongside Trent Boult and Luke Wood for the first time along with Joe Clarke again this year. With the help of Marcus as vice-captain, I can’t wait to lead this group and we want to see as many of our fans at the MCG as possible on Friday 16th December at the MCG,” Zampa said in an official statement released by Melbourne Stars.

Zampa expressed his joy in leading the Melbourne Stars. He added it was a delight to play with Joe Clarke, Trent Boult, Luke Wood, Marcus, who was vice-captain, and Marcus for the first time this season.
