IND Vs ENG: Surya’s maiden ton goes in vain as England won by 17 runs

Suryakumar Yadav’s blistering ton went in vain as England outshined India by 17 runs in the third and final T20I of the series at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Chasing a mammoth target of 216, India was in trouble at 31 for three when Yadav and Shreyas Iyer collaborated for 119 runs for the fourth wicket to keep their side remain in the game. Iyer and Dinesh Karthik were dismissed in quick succession but Yadav continued his efforts to take India closer to the target. But his expulsion in the penultimate over put the match back in England’s favour.

IND Vs ENG 3rd T20 Match Highlights: 

Earlier, after opting to bat first, England lost their skipper Jos Buttler for the third time in a succession first. But this time, the skipper was dismissed following a quick but powerful 9-ball 18 knock.

Roy, who was looking good at 26 trapped in Umran Malik’s delivery and walked back to pavilion after providing a strong start to his side.

The game was then completely taken over by Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone, who combined for 84 runs in only 42 balls before Malan was dismissed after hitting 77.

After getting rid of the risky Malan, Bishnoi also got go of all-rounder Moeen Ali to get India back into the game.

Contrarily, Livingstone handled the charge alone and played an unbeaten 42 to help his side post 215 on board in 20 overs.

After beating the English side in first two T20Is, India started the chase with a hope to whitewash England. But Reece Topley came into field with some other plans as he removed both the Indian openers early.

While Virat Kohli‘s struggles with the bat continued as he was removed on eleven by David Willey.

India were at 31 for 3 and a target of 216 was looking a monster, but Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer kept their calm and added 119 runs for the fourth wicket to bulb up India’s hope. However, the tables again turned when India lost Iyer and Karthik in quick succession.

Suryakumar, on the other hand, continued his fight and smashed his maiden ton. However, due to lack of support from other end, he was forced to play big shots on every ball and got out after scoring a breath taking 117 off 55 balls.

Player of the Match 

Reece Topley was awarded with the player of the match title for removing both the Indian openers at the very beginning of India’s run chase and then breaking the match saving partnership between Yadav and Iyer by removing Iyer to put England back in game.
