Ian Chappell lavishes praise on Virat Kohli, calls him most competitive among rivals

The modern day great players Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Babar Azam in the past few years have made us all believe that a man can single handedly change the course of the game with their brilliant batting technique.

In his ESPNcricinfo blog, former Australia captain Ian Chappel examined all of the top players of the moment and concluded that Kohli is the most competitive of them all.

Ian Chappell’s Comments on Virat Kohli

He says, “from among these players on their best days, it’s hard to surpass the highly competitive Kohli.”

“Kohli is a fine player with a great stroke range, a highly competitive nature, and a thoughtful approach to batting.”

Chappel stated that it is difficult to choose the best among this talented group, but on their best days, it will be hard to overtake Kohli.

“It’s hard to choose the best player from that talented group. And when you consider that some old-timers preferred Victor Trumper’s artistic style over the acknowledged best batter. Sir Donald Bradman, the difficulty is not surprising. From among these players on their best days, it’s hard to surpass the highly competitive Kohli. His twin centuries in a failed but brave victory attempt at Adelaide Oval in 2014 remain my favourite innings among those produced by this group,” he stated further.

What Ian Chappel said about Babar Azam?

He also opened up about Pakistan’s team current skipper and opener Babar Azam. Chappel says, “Babar is a complete player with his flowing drives and all-round shot range. His footwork is neat and there is an enjoyable artistry that makes his batting compulsive viewing. To round out the picture, he has a game that fits all three formats. But his Test batting, with an ability to compile centuries, stands out.”

Team India is currently in Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022, which begins on October 16. On Friday, the team’s practise period began. In the meantime, a video of right-handed hitter Virat Kohli working out in the nets in preparation for the major event is making the rounds on social media. In the brief film, Kohli first plays a pull shot, then a glance shot on the next ball, followed by a flawless drive.

Prior to the 2022 Asia Cup, the right-handed hitter was having trouble with his form, but he made a fantastic recovery at the continental competition. He was the second highest run-scorer in the competition.

In addition, Kohli ended a nearly three-year-long international century drought with his unbeaten 122-run knock while playing Afghanistan.

Kohli then maintained his form by scoring 63 runs in the last T20I at the home series against Australia. While in the second T20I of team India’s next bilateral series, Kohli recorded unbeaten 49 runs.
