Happy Birthday Shreyas Iyer – India’s Most Promising Batting Prospect

Shreyas Santosh Iyer was born on December 6, 1994, in Mumbai. He is a right-handed top-order batsman in the team India. He was recognized by Pravin Amre, former Indian cricketer, in his career’s early stages. He had pinned the cover drives and pulled with equal disdain and immediately when Amre was watching.

In 2014, he played for Trent Bridge, a county cricket team in England. There he had played 3 matches and scored 297 runs with an average of 99 with a high score of 171 with a mark. Iyer made his debut in 2014 in Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored 273 runs with an average of 54.60.

He made his Ranji Trophy debut in the same year, scoring 809 runs in that year’s Ranji Trophy season and was its 7th highest run-scorer.
His strike-rate caught the eye of critics who immediately drew comparisons with him to legendary Indian batsman Virender Sehwag for his fearless and dominating stroke-play, and more specifically, his hand-eye coordination, even against abrupt lateral movement.

In 2017, he was added to the Indian Test series team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. In the 4th test, he had come in as a substitute fielder. In October, in the same year, he was picked in the Indian T-20I squad against New Zealand, scoring in 23 runs in 21 balls in one outing.

In the year of 2017, Iyer was in the ODI Team against Sri Lanka and also was named in the squad that played South Africa. Against West Indies, he scored 71 runs to become the highest run-getter after skipper Virat Kohli.

In the year 2015, he made his entry into IPL by the Delhi Daredevils team, and they bought him for Rs 2.6cr. For the Delhi franchise, he scored 439 runs in 41 matches at an average of 33.76. In 2018, he was retained once again by the same team and was made its captain as well. In the bargain, he replaced Gautam Gambhir. He created a record by scoring 90 runs in 40 balls in one match where he was awarded man of the match. In 2019, he was once again retained by the Delhi Capitals.
