Steven Smith To Join Sydney Sixers Again

Australia’s run-machine, Steve Smith made his comeback in Big Bash League as he signed again with the Sydney Sixers team on Thursday, paving way for his comeback into the tournament after six years. Steve Smith was a part of the first Sydney Sixers team that raised the inaugural cup back in 2014.

He made his comeback to Australia’s T20 squad recently against Sri Lanka and Pakistan and managed to pile up runs, indicating that he has his eyes set firmly on the T20 World Cup which will take place in 2020.

Smith recently showcased his T20 skills with a brilliant unbeaten 80 off 51 balls in the run chase against Pakistan in Canberra alongside another unbeaten fifty against Sri Lanka in his first T20Is after three and a half years.

Smith said in a statement on Friday, “I am excited about getting an opportunity to play for the Sydney Sixers again.” Sixers general manager Jodie Hawkins hailed the signing of Smith, saying the former Australia captain would add plenty to the squad.

Jodie Hawkins said, “We couldn’t be more excited to see Steve back in magenta this season. He was a part of our original squad that won the first BBL and to see him return to our setup again is going to be brilliant. He’s an asset not just on the field but also for our young players. Fans will also be delighted to see him back in team colors later this season after the international season.”

The Sixers confirmed Smith replaced the wicket-keeper-batsman Peter Nevill in their squad. The season will start with the very match against the Perth Scorchers on December 18.
