England not ready to take risk with Buttler before T20 World Cup

Team England’s regular white-ball captain Jos Buttler is in Pakistan but hasn’t played any game till form and the management is in no mood to take a risk with him considering the marquee event next month.

Moeen Ali is handling the captainship responsibility in his absence and the series is currently on par with 3 more games to go.

Matthew Mott, the coach of team England, provided an update about the regular skipper and they don’t want to take a risk with him ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Australia next month.

Matthew Mott on Jos Buttler

“When we picked this team we had an eye to the World Cup but to the future as well,” explained Mott.

“He’s not a player we want to take a risk on this close to a World Cup and it was a reasonably significant injury that he had. He’s chomping at the bit for a game but we’ll just try and see how we go. Maybe in the last game or two he might be a chance.”

Buttler is also the regular opener for team England in white-ball formats and in his absence the team tried different openers – Alex Hales, Phil Salt and Will Jacks.

Alex Hales, who made a return in the side, started the series with a bang as he smashed fifty in the series opener on September 20. His knock was crucial in the chase as it provided his side the right path to chase the target.

England won the first game, lost the third, then won the third again, and lost the nail-biting fourth T20I. The series is right now like a roller-coaster as no one can assume before the game that who will win today’s match.

“We want to win the series, it’s important to get some momentum going, but more importantly we’re looking long term and games into players who have shown a lot in our domestic cricket. They’re players who scored a lot of runs and have taken a lot of wickets, it’s important to give them opportunities.

Buttler was appointed as the full time skipper of the English side after team England’s 2019 World Cup winning captain announced his retirement from the international cricket in June this year.

T20 World Cup Preparations

Both sides are trying hard to balance their combination ahead of the T2OI World Cup.

The English have already used 16 out of their selected players for the tour. While Pakistan are striking to prepare a perfect team.

England will directly fly to Australia after this series. While Pakistan will land in New Zealand for a tri-series between Pakistan-Bangladesh-New Zealand.
