India-W beat England-W by 16 runs and whitewash the ODI series 3-0

Jhulan Goswami ends her career on a high note

A poor start to the Innings

IND W Vs ENG W 3rd ODI Match Highlights:

England bowled India out for 169, despite half-centuries from Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma, endangering Jhulan Goswami’s golden send-off. In contrast, India’s bowlers, led by Renuka Thakur (4-29), sparked their comeback.

As India won by 16 runs in a low-scoring thriller at Lord’s on Saturday (September 24), clinching a 3-0 series victory.

Charlotte Dean, who fought hard with an 80-ball 47, backed up too much at the non-end, striker’s and Deepti removed the bails, left the batsman in tears and others watching in disbelief.

Goswami Contribution

Goswami delivered 2-30, concluding her ODI career with 255 wickets. 44 wickets in Tests and 56 in T20Is. India knocked England out for 153 to ensure the famous pacer has a happy ending to her cricketing career.

Goswami began with a maiden and kept things close despite Emma Lamb hitting a couple of boundaries. She also received another guard of honor when India took the field for the second session. Due to Bhatia’s outstanding glovework, which resulted in a stumping, Thakur was equally economical at the other end and also successfully accounted for Lamb’s wicket.

Tammy Beaumont, who was participating in her 100th ODI for England, got off to a slow start, getting just 4 runs off the first 17 deliveries, before dispatching a sloppy delivery from Goswami for a boundary.

Renuka Singh comments

Renuka Singh was the Player of the match for her incredible bowling performance, after the match in the post-match interview she stated saying “I go back and talk to my coach, who tells me whenever there is a bad phase, he always motivates me and gives me the confidence to improve. I was very excited to play alongside Jhulan, when she made her debut, I was just 3. I get inspired by her. Will go back and work on my basics. It’s a dream to play here at Lord’s. Wanted the five-wicket haul to get on that Honours Board, but not to be, maybe next time.”

India, however, was serious about giving Goswami a proper sendoff before the series ever started. They managed to defend 169, the lowest total successfully defended in a women’s ODI at Lord’s.
