What will England’s best-playing XI look like?
Top order: (1-3)
England made a bold call of dropping Jason Roy ahead of the World Cup. It was the duo of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow that turbocharged England’s innings in the 2019 World Cup cycle. But his omission opens up a door for Harry Brook who has had a sensational start to his career. Dawid Malan has been consistent with his run-scoring methods.
It will be interesting to see who partners Bairstow at the top. They are likely to start with Bairstow-Malan combination. Joe Root will walk into the number 3 spot. He will be expected to play the role of a sheet anchor around other flamboyant batters.
Middle order: (4-7)
If England’s top order was not fearsome enough, their middle order certainly is. Ben Stokes’s return to the ODI setup has set the cat among the pigeons. He made the highest ODI score for an English batter against New Zealand just recently. Liam Livingstone will follow Stokes and captain, Jos Buttler, will walk in at number 6.
