BCCI Is Looking For A New Slot To Hold IPL

The 13th edition of IPL has been postponed indefinitely according to reports based on what some officials of franchises said on Wednesday.

The grand tournament which was supposed to begin on March 29th was pushed back to April 15th due to the coronavirus concerns.

As the government of India decided not to end its lockdown on April 14th and prolong it until May 3rd as the situation of the corona has not been brought under control, the organizers had no choice but to postpone IPL.

No Official Announcement From BCCI Yet

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convened a teleconference to decide about the future action and informed the franchises about the further delay, though they did not officially announce it.

Delhi Capitals chief executive Dheeraj Malhotra said, “Well, all we know is that it has been shifted indefinitely and BCCI is working on a window in the future.”

A CEO of another franchise who wants anonymity has said, “We have been informed about it being postponed indefinitely, but we’re still waiting for an email from the board with details.”

IPL governing council chairman Brijesh Patel refused to answer calls from Reuters on Tuesday and Wednesday to give details on the league’s future plans.

Ganguly: Difficult To Conduct IPL At The Moment

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly during the weekend told New Indian Express, it is very difficult to conduct the tournament now due to lockdown and travel ban restrictions on foreign players due to the ongoing health crisis.

“At the present moment, we can’t say anything,” the former India captain told New Indian Express newspaper at the weekend,” he said.

“Where will you get players from, where do players travel? It’s just simple commonsense that at the moment nothing is in favour of any kind of sport anywhere in the world, forget IPL.”

Many media outlets and cricket experts are predicting the tournament to go ahead later this year in the months of September and October before the T20 world cup.
