Wasim Akram warns Pakistan ahead of Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka

Wasim Akram warns Pakistan team

The wait to witness the winner of the 15th edition of Asia Cup will over today as both Sri Lanka and Pakistan are all set to lock horns in the finals of Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai.

But before the big clash on Sunday, former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram said that even though Babar Azam & Co. will be the favourites to win Asia Cup 2022, but they must be mindful of a Sri Lankan team that could cause them problems, just like they did in the Super 4 encounter on Friday.

Speaking to BBN Sports, Akram stated that Pakistan will take lessons from their failures and enter the final as favourites. He did warn them, though, to be cautious of the Sri Lankan team, who were in good form.

“The performance of the Pakistan team has been fabulous in this Asia Cup. However, in the game against Sri Lanka, the intent was missing in their batting. The bowling was decent though. Hopefully, they will learn from their mistakes. But still, I think Pakistan are the favourites in the finals. But the exciting and young Sri Lanka team cannot be taken easy,” Akram said.

“Pakistan cricket lovers have been saying that our middle order is a bit inexperienced, and it was exposed in the last Super 4 game after Rizwan got out. But it will be a good wicket in the final. Hopefully, they will come back stronger,” he added.

The great bowler also praised Babar Azam as one of the best players in the world and backed him to return to his best in the final.

“Babar is one of the best players in the world and needs just one good innings. He struggled a bit because he was worried about the lack of runs. But the good thing is, he has spent time on the crease, and for any great player, that matters as well. I think he’ll do well in the final,” said Akram.

The continental competition has previously been won five times by Sri Lanka and twice by Pakistan.
