Sri Lanka Cricket has recently sent an e-mail to its counterparts on the Board Control for Cricket In India (BCCI), asking that it be possible in July to resume bilateral series between the sides. The Men in Blue were scheduled for three ODIs and as many T20Is in July to tour the island. Moreover, the likelihood of the series to take place are lesser due to the present worldwide condition.
Sri Lankan and Indian players will follow strict rules
In late July, SLC showed its willingness to host the series and wants the BCCI to respond. An official has disclosed that the players from both the sides have to obey strict guidelines when the series takes place, as stated by Island Cricket. For the safety of the fans, the matches may be played behind closed doors.
The ODI between Australia and New Zealand was the last international cricket match the fans witnessed until the COVID-19 outbreak. Australia faced New Zealand with no crowd to cheer the players on the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia won the game with a comfortable seventy-one runs, and indeed, the match was a unique experience for all those who enjoyed it on their television sets.
The following ODIs have been withdrawn in the wake of the pandemic. Since then, there has been no cricketing action. For two months, cricket has stopped and Australia’s T20 World Cup 2020 is also at risk. Many sources indicated that if this situation doesn’t change in the near future, the mega event might be stopped.
