“Shikhar Dhawan And Rohit Sharma Will Definitely Open”- Virat Kohli Ahead Of The 1st ODI

Team India are on the course of being named as the ‘comeback kings’ in world cricket. The ‘Men in Blue’ managed to make a comeback in three back-to-back series against Australia and England, which included two-Test series and a 5-match T20I. India will now head towards their 3-match ODI series against England, which is scheduled to start from March 23rd in Pune.

IND vs ENG 1st ODI: Dhawan will open for India

Virat Kohli, ahead of the 1st ODI against England, confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will open alongside Rohit Sharma in the first match. Shikhar Dhawan, who featured in the first T20I against England, was benched in the rest of the four games. Virat Kohli was seen experimenting with his openers throughout the T20I series. The Indian skipper, however, is certain about his choice of openers for the ODI series. The Gabbar of Indian cricket will make his comeback against England. The famous pair of Rohit-Dhawan is set to take charge for the Indians.

“Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will definitely open. When it comes to ODI, there are no doubts about that. They’ve been amazing over the past few years,” said Kohli in his press conference.

“As Rohit mentioned, it was a strategic move but we enjoyed batting together and we saw the effects of batting together. It’s not a guarantee that this is going to continue in the future. I am going to open in the IPL to keep all options. Now I want to understand my role as an opener as well so that I can open up a slot for someone like Surya. I should be able to play any kind of role that the team requires me to. We’ll take a call closer to the World Cup,” Kohli concluded.
