Shane Watson predicts winner of Asia Cup 2022 ahead of IND Vs PAK clash

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has selected India to win the 2022 Asia Cup, which will begin on August 27.

In the last couple of days, many cricket pundits predicted that India does have a better chance of winning the cup one more time. With the star Australian all-rounder being the most recent to join the list.

Considering team India’s long history in the Asia Cup, having won it seven times and placed second three times, Watson also feels that Rohit Sharma and his company will win this year’s edition.

The former Australia all-rounder stated during the most recent session of the ICC Review that India will win the Asia Cup in 2022. According to him, the Indian team is capable of quickly adapting to changing circumstances.

“My predicted winner is India. They’re so strong and depending on what the conditions are, they adapt easily to conditions,” said Watson.

India will play Pakistan in their opening encounter of the competition on August 28, and the former Australian cricketer predicted it will be a memorable one.

Watson continued by saying that the winner of the match between the bitter rivals would ultimately take the trophy. The former all-rounder asserted, however, that he believes the Indian side will win the tournament because their batting order possesses sufficient firepower, making it difficult for opposing teams to compete.

“That first game is going to be very special to watch because Pakistan have full belief now that they can beat this Indian team. I think, really, whoever wins that game is going to go on and win the Asia Cup.”

“[But] I’ve just got a feeling India [will win the tournament]. They’ve got so much firepower all the way through their batting order, so it’s going to be hard to be able to contain them,” said Watson.

India and Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside Hong Kong. While Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B.

The first match of the Asia Cup 2022 will be played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday, August 27.
