Salman Butt Upset With The Verdict Of Life Ban, Questions Integrity Of Pakistan

Tainted Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt lashed at critics who support the notion that after being penalized for cricket corruption players should be suspended for life. Butt, who lost half a decade from his cricketing career after his involvement in the spot-fixing that shook the cricket world in 2010 has also said that no one in Pakistan cricket should speak about honesty.Butt was removed from Pakistani captainship due to the ongoing criminal proceedings in 2010, and the left-handed opener was also spending 30 months in jail for plotting with his then teammates Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
Butt is now in the twilight of his career, the former skipper has evidently tried to fix Mohammad Hafeez’s remarks about players who have brought disgrace to their national side and find themselves guilty of cricket corruption. After completing his spot-fixing suspension, Hafeez had fired a salvo at Pakistan’s batsman Sharjeel Khan who is eyeing a return to the national side.

Sharing his thoughts on the life ban demands of tainted cricketers in Pakistan, Butt has opined that not players, only the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should talk on this subject as they are the game’s apex governing bodies.

“I don’t really understand why someone would even talk about this topic and give his opinion because it doesn’t really matter. The bottom line is that only the ICC and PCB can talk about this because they make the laws,” Butt said.

“I know players who have been added to the team due to their connections and there have been several players who have made several comebacks without delivering any meaningful performances. Are these issues different from corruption. In Pakistan cricket we shouldn’t even talk about integrity,” Butt added.

Butt made the most of his rebound in domestic cricket and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) star used to be a wanted man when coach Waqar Younis was in the helm in 2016. The former head coach had been vying for Butt’s return to the national side but former skipper Shahid Afridi was not in favor of giving a fresh start to the tainted opener.

“Punishment means that you will be treated like any other player after you’ve served the sentence. Where does their integrity go when they’re in the mix and working with other people? And when they support players because of their connections,” he said.
