Rohit Sharma 2.0: How Former MI Skipper is Dominating IPL 2024

Rohit Sharma 2.0 in IPL 2024

Rohit Sharma 2.0 in IPL 2024: The Indian captain and former captain of Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma since the ODI World Cup in 2023 has been on a different level with his style of approach toward the game. The nickname Hitman is the well-suited word for Rohit due to his explosive power hitting. He has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL championships under his leadership and broke multiple records.

Rohit Sharma first when started playing cricket was a spinner but then his coach saw his potential and asked him to practice batting. Even after that, he was a middle-order batsman who used to bat down the order and got chances very rarely. But in the 2013 Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni, he was asked to open the innings for the Indian team.

This move totally changed his career as he then went on to become one of the greats of white ball cricket. He has three double centuries to his name in the ODI format, where he also holds the record for the highest number of runs scored by an individual in an ODI match (264).

Rohit Sharma in the Indian Premier League

The Hitman of Indian cricket has created waves over the years and in the Indian Premier League also he has shined over the past with Decan Charges first and Mumbai Indians now. Rohit Sharma is the fourth highest runs scorer in the history of IPL with 6329 runs in 247 matches. When it comes to six-hitting and playing a pull short there is no one better than Rohit Sharma to do it in the white ball game.

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s 2.0 role over the past few months has caught the eyes of the main. We even saw it in the ODI World Cup in 2023 then in the test series against England. Most importantly his form in this IPL has proved that it’s Rohit’s 2.0 time.

In this IPL 2024 so far Mumbai Indians have played five games and won two of them. Interestingly this time Rohit is not the skipper of MI it is Hardik Pandya who is leading the charge for Mumbai hoping to continue the success of Rohit Sharma further in terms of leadership.

But after getting reveled from his captaincy job Rohit seems like he is enjoying his new role where he just has to come out and play his style of cricket. The goal is simple as there is no captaincy pressure with him now. In five games so far Rohit has smashed 156 runs with a strike rate of 167.74. There are still a lot of games left to play in this IPL and we are sure that this 2.0 version of the Rohit Sharma will surely make an impact.

His early aggressive starts are helping Mumbai to get off to a crazy start. The same thing he did in the ODI World Cup for India. The intent of the former skipper is clear from the ball one. His aggressive style of play has proven to be a game-changer for Mumbai and if this continues then it is sure that Mumbai will get their much-expected sixth IPL title.

Conclusion: What to Expect from Rohit 2.0

Also with the T20 World Cup coming up in June, Rohit will be keen to build his form in IPL and continue it in the World Cup for India. His form is crucial for India in the T20 WC. But it is very much interesting to watch Rohit bat at his best. With every knock his confidence is growing and this is a very bad sign for opponents.
