The captain of Punjab Kings, Mayank Agrawal won the toss and invited DC to bat first. The Capitals side faced a mini heart attack when they lost David Warner on the first ball of the first over. But with the brilliant efforts of Sarfaraz Khan, Mitchell Marsh, and Lalit Yadav, they somehow manage to put 159 on board in 20 overs.
Though the 160 target for Punjab Kings looks like a cakewalk, and even after their stylish batters Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan provided a flying start, with 38 runs in just 3.5 overs.
Suddenly the table has turned and DC bowlers trapped 5 Punjab batters in a span of just 8 runs. Jitesh Sharma and Rahul Chahar showed some fighting spirits but that wasn’t enough to hand Punjab a victory as they lost the game by 17 runs.
Shardul Thakur took the maximum number of wickets (4) for Delhi, and their spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shared 2-2 each, while Anrich Nortje bagged 1.
RCB with 14 points and -0.323 run rate slipped to 5th position, while DC who also reached 14 points after the victory have a +0.255 run rate that helped them to dethrone RCB from the 4th spot.
Both teams now have only 1 game left in their league stage fixtures, there could be many possibilities whether DC qualifies or RCB qualifies.
One is if DC and RCB both win their last game, then DC will qualify because of a better run-rate unless RCB won the game by a big margin or DC lost the game by a big margin.
Another is if DC wins and RCB lose, then DC definitely go through. Third, if RCB wins and DC lose, then RCB will qualify for Playoffs Race IPL 2022.
And if both lose their last games, and Punjab Kings won their final game with a good margin then they can reach the Playoffs Race IPL 2022.
We can see a clear picture after the RCB game. The FAF’s side will play against the table-toppers Gujarat Titans on May 19, 2022.
Delhi Capitals will play their 14th and final game of the league stage of IPL 2022 on May 21, 2022, against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
