Matthew Mott Is Likely To Be Named As England’s White-Ball Coach

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has come up with a plan to introduce a fresh adjustment to its coaching system by appointing two new coaches. Whereas one would be in charge of directing the squad for the test matches, another will handle the preparations for the limited-overs games. Whilst they continue their hunt for the white-ball coach, they considered Brendon McCullum, former captain of the New Zealand national team, for the Test slot.

Even though it has surfaced that veteran all-rounder Paul Collingwood, who has been England’s interim coach for the West Indies series previously this year, is among the leading candidates for the role, England Cricket also has Matthew Mott, who’s really presently the head coach of the Aussie women’s team.

Mott has a great deal of experience as a coach, previously having held positions with New South Wales, Glamorgan, and Australia A. In addition to that, during the 2009 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he operated with the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) as an assistant coach. Since 2015, the 48-year-old has become a part of the coaching staff for the Australian squad.

I’m thoroughly enjoying what I’m doing at the moment: Matthew Mott

“Mott has been preferred by the interview panel over former England allrounder Paul Collingwood, who was the primary contender having stood in as head coach on the recent tours to the Caribbean”, said Matthew Mott.

Under Meg Lanning’s command, the squad has indeed gone on to win both the 2018 & 2020 seasons of the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup, as well as the ICC Women’s World Cup, which was held in New Zealand previously this year.

“As a coach, you have to look at the next pathway, there will always be that ‘what’s next? But I’m thoroughly enjoying what I’m doing at the moment. I don’t feel the need to rush off anywhere else. A lot of people think it’s a step up to go into the men’s program. I think it’s just a step across. I’ve been involved with Australia A men’s program a couple of times. I’ve enjoyed my work in there”, added Mott.

The Three Lions have a busy schedule ahead of them, featuring competing in the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia further this year. As a result, the decision to partition the coaching responsibility could prove to be very beneficial for both the players and the administration of the team.
