PAK Didn’t Have Great Records Against India At WC’s: Mahmood

Cricket fans all across the globe have noted their calendars in anticipation of the high-octane 2021 T20 World Cup. Despite numerous high-profile matches are planned, the India-Pakistan match is perhaps the most anticipated. It seems the two countries have a long history of war. The high-octane event will take place on October 24 in Dubai, and tickets have been sold out.

Although Pakistan still has a better head-to-head history against India in international cricket, the scenario is very different in World Cups. So far, the two teams have met in 12 World Cup games — seven in ODI World Cups and five in T20 World Cups – with India winning each occasion. It’s an incredible achievement, especially given Pakistan has consistently had a solid side.

I am sure Pakistan can beat India: Mahmood

However, Babar Azam’s team has a chance to snap their losing sequence in Dubai. Addressing the subject, former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood stated that India has a stronger squad and is presently in better form. Regardless, he supported his countrymen in their efforts to recreate the history of the Arab nation.

“The match is expected to be tough because our players perform well in T20 format but the way India are playing themselves and the kind of team they have, definitely India will have the edge, but on the day, if our players click, I am sure we can beat them,” Mahmood told Cricket Pakistan.

Due to political tensions between the two countries, Pakistan and India now only compete in multi-team competitions. Pakistan defeated India in the Champions Trophy final in 2017. But, things altered in their next encounter, which took place during the 2019 World Cup. India won by 89 runs, which prolong their winning streak.

“We played India twice at the Champions Trophy 2017. We lost the round game but beat them in the final. After that, we played them at the 2019 World Cup. Throughout World Cups, we haven’t had a good record against them. Even when we played, Pakistan did not have a great record against India at World Cups,” the former quick added.
