The International Cricket Council published TV and digital viewing figures recently, for the stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 party, setting up the new TV and digital records and being the most-watched cricket event ever for women.

Fans have participated in greater numbers than ever before across ICC’s digital and social channels with an estimated 701 million views of video to date. It is a milestone for ICC women’s events for the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup with the previous best coming, which has netted a total of 100 million views from the entire event. Meanwhile, the official media networks of the tournament have attracted 34 million engagements and more than 2 billion fans impressions.
Viewership Figures
Through the Regional Broadcast Partner of the ICC, Star Sports, and its Media Partners, the event was seen via live television coverage in almost 160 territories around the world. While live streaming broadcasts-simulcasts on mobile and other digital channels such as Hotstar in India and other parts of the world and host nation channel apps such as Kayo have been available globally-in over 200 territories.
Continuing the records on television ratings, Australia Women’s opening game against India became Australia’s second most-watched women’s match with a cumulative average audience of 448,000 across Fox Sports and the Nine Network. While in India, where Star Sports broadcasts India matches in five languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu, the same game has crossed 20 million and an average audience of 3.55 million, 39% more than the most-watched match in the 2018 edition of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20.
For the same matches in the 2018 season, the first 12 matches of this game attracted 2.46 billion viewing minutes in India for the first 12 matches against 787 million viewing minutes. This reflects a rise of 213 percent.
The sport is getting unparalleled free-to-air coverage in Australia, with 13 matches shown on Nine Network (versus six in 2018). This has led to a rise of 1600 percent in Australia’s tournament viewing minutes.
England vs West Indies was the most-watched match in the UK, with an average audience of 245,000. This was the second most-attended match for any recorded international women’s match in the UK.
The only higher audience was a final between England and India for the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup that attracted 460,000.
