The West Indies cricket team is touring the Netherlands currently for 3 One Day International (ODI) match series. On Friday, the teams played their second ODI in which Netherland won the toss and decided to bat first. Let us dive into West Indies vs Netherlands Match Summary.

The hosts batting first could only put up a total of 214. The openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd again performed well as they moved towards a solid start scoring 46 and 51 respectively. The duo put up a 100-run partnership before Vikramjit got out in the 21st over. Scott Edward replaced the young batter and went on to score 68 runs off 89 balls. He lost his partner Max soon after he came to the crease and that resulted in a series of wickets falling. From 1 for 101, the team could only add up 113 runs more as they dwindled up to a total of 214. None of the batters after Edwards could score runs in double digits. For West Indies, Akeal Hosein bowled a dream spell as he took 4 wickets in 10 overs giving just 39 runs. Backing him was Alzarri Joseph who took 2 wickets.

Chasing a rather simple total, West Indies did not have a very good start as they went on to lose wickets early on. They lost their top 4 batters in just 16 overs at the score of 60. Kyle Mayers could only add up another 22 runs before he got out. Keacy Carty came in at number 7 as he replaced the batter. The hero of the match for WI was Brandon King who saved the match for his team scoring 91 runs at a 100+ strike rate. Netherland bowlers really impressed everyone with their early bowling but missed to take a couple of more wickets later on and got thrashed by King and Carty.

The losing captain Pieter Seelaar contemplated the loss as he said, “Didn’t score enough with the bat, we had a very good platform. Their spinners bowled better, they got more purchases than us. A score of 250-260 would have been good, but we couldn’t get there. Shariz getting a wicket in the first over for us was great, but to be totally honest we dropped off too quickly. It’s good to say nice things about these two games, but in the end, we want to win. It is not good enough to be good in patches if you want to win games.”

Nicholas Pooran looked happy with the match result as even though his team didn’t handle the situation better early on, the result was in their favor. He said. “Very happy. As I said before we came here to win games and we are doing the right things. Today was a good game, there was a bit of a collapse but the guys put their hand up and got the job done. We are having conversations around getting wickets with the new ball and if we don’t then the spinners have to do the job. Every victory means a lot to us and we want to keep winning. We will try to live in the moment and enjoy this evening.”

The West Indies won the series 2-0 and, more importantly, secured 20 points in the CWC Super League. In both games, the Netherlands had their moments, but their lack of experience showed when they were unable to capitalize on them. In the third One-Day International, which takes place on Saturday, they will have one more chance to show what they’ve got.
