The eliminator game of MLC 2023 will be the first of the three knockout matches in the tournament. It will be the third-ranked Washington Freedom who will take on the fourth-placed MI New York. WAF lost out on an opportunity to finish second owing to their inferior Net Run Rate (NRR). They will have to now brace for a knockout match against MINY who qualified just at the last moment.

#1 Glenn Phillips
He is one of the quintessential modern-day white-ball cricketers. There is little that Glenn Philipps can’t do on a cricket field. He could smash the ball right from the word go. Phillips can turn his arm around for a couple of overs. He is one of the best fielders in the world. Phillips is a complete package who can change the course of the game in a short span of time. He had a fine outing against MINY in the last league game. Philipps scored 47 off 35 balls at a strike rate of 134.29. It was his innings that lend some respectability to the WAF’s total.
#2 Nicholas Pooran
His national team missed out on an ODI World Cup berth. Nicholas Pooran was part of that side that had to face the humiliation of not making it to the main event. But Pooran seems to have put that setback behind him as his scores in the MLC suggest. He had a good outing against WAF and later went one better in the game against SEO.
Pooran hit a terrific 68 off just 34 balls striking at 200. The left-hander dispatched 7 deliveries over the ropes in addition to hitting 3 fours, scoring a total of 54 runs in boundaries. There are very few players in this generation who boast of a clean bat swing as Pooran.

#1 Matthew Short
He has had one brilliant game so far wherein he scored 80 off just 50 balls. Matthew Short is due for another biggie in the tournament. The big games will not be a novelty for Short who is a regular on the T20 franchise circuit. He will look to ride the wave of unpredictability as not many teams can claim to know his game inside-out.
#2 Trent Boult
The memory of Trent Boult dismantling DC in the 2020 IPL final is still fresh among cricket lovers. He played a significant part in India’s ouster from the 2019 World Cup in the semifinal. Boult is certainly a big-match player who isn’t credited enough for his heroics. He almost pulled the plug on SEO in the last league game as he returned with figures of 4-31.
