The year 2019 has turned out to be a good year for the India vice-captain, Rohit Sharma, as he has been listed in the second-highest batting rank in ODI cricket and has grabbed runs in all formats of international cricket. He registered the record-breaking World Cup 2019 with his five centuries. Rohit Sharma has grabbed three tons in four matches at the time of Test match series against Team South Africa when he was asked to bat up the order. At the end of the year, Rohit Sharma has gained most runs like 1490, including 7 centuries, 13 fifty-plus scores, and 146 fours in the ODI format. Rohit has also achieved three International centuries more than any other cricketer in the year 2019 and has 13 fewer runs than India Team Skipper, Virat Kohli.

  •  Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to score two centuries in his maiden Test as an opening batsman when he opened for the first time in this format at the time of the Vizag Test against the South Africa Team. His 303 runs in that match are the most that have been scored by any player in their first Test match as an opening batsman. Tillakaratne Dilshan scored 215 runs during the 2009 Galle Test match against New Zealand Team.
  • The Indian vice-captain, Rohit Sharma, became only the second cricketer to hit three consecutive centuries in the World Cup. Former Sri-Lankan cricketer, Kumar Sangakkara, had secured four hundred in a row in the 2015 edition. Rohit Sharma also became the 2nd Indian player with a hat-trick of ODI centuries after Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma is also the first player to score three ODI hundreds in England.
  •  Rohit Sharma has scored three out of five centuries in the CWC19 that came while chasing. He thus became the first player to score three tons in the history of the World Cup while chasing. He also became the first cricketer with four centuries while chasing in ICC ODI tournaments in CT and CWC.

He thus became the first cricketer to achieve hundreds against seven different oppositions in a calendar year in International cricket. Sachin Tendulkar had as many as nine tons in 1998 while former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, and David Warner scored seven tons apiece in 2000 and 2016, respectively.
  •  Rohit is the first player with seven fifty-plus runs on Indian soil in Test cricket; a phase between 2016 and 2019. Everton Weekes in 1948 made 49, Rahul Dravid scored 98 in 1997 and Andy Flower between the year 1999-2000 had six consecutive fifty-plus scores in this format.
  •  Rohit Sharma has a 159-run knock in Vizag. It was his 8th 150 plus score in ODI match; two more 150 plus scores than any other cricketer in this format. It was his 3rd 150 plus ODI score against West Indies Team which made him the first player with three 150 plus scores in ODI match against an opponent.

The most achievements by an Indian opener earlier in a calendar year were Virender Sehwag’s 18 fifty-plus scores in 2008. Overall, Rohit Sharma 20 scores of 50+ runs are the 2nd most scores by an opener in a calendar across all international formats. Sanath Jayasuriya grabs the record with 21 fifty-plus scores while Saeed Anwar and Gary Kirsten have also made their 20 scores of fifty-plus in international cricket in 1996 and 2000, respectively, while opening in matches.
  •  Rohit Sharma is one of the five players and only the 3rd Indian to score 28 centuries in ODI cricket. Rohit has hit 26 of those while opening the innings; the 4th most ODI hundreds by an opener.
  •  Rohit Sharma has scored a total of 78 sixes in international cricket in 2019. These were the most number of international sixes by any cricketer in a calendar. Rohit broke his very own record which he set in the year 2018 with 74 sixes, surpassing the 65 sixes he hit in 2017.
  • Rohit Sharma is the 2nd cricketer to feature in 100 International matches in Men’s T20I cricket after Shoaib Malik made 119 appearances at the time of Rajkot T20I match against Team Bangladesh.
  •  The 33-year-old cricketer has hit 191 sixes in international cricket in India. These are the most no. of international achievements by any other cricketer over the Indian soil by surpassing MS Dhoni’s 186 sixes.
  •  At the time of the match in Mumbai T20I match against West Indies Team, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian cricketer and only the 3rd batsman to hit 400 sixes in international cricket. 338 out of 410 sixes hit by Rohit in internationals came up while opening the batting. Only Chris Gayle hit 527 sixes in Internationals as an opening batsman.
  • Rohit Sharma achieved 648 runs in the 2019 World Cup and then ended the tournament as its leading run-scorer. His 648 runs are the 5th most by any player in an ODI series or tournament. Only the former Indian Cricket Batsman Sachin Tendulkar with 673 runs in 2003 and Matthew Hayden with 659 in 2007 had scored more runs than Rohit in a World Cup. They, however, played two matches more. Rohit’s 648 runs are the most by any player in the league stage of an ODI tournament.
  •  Rohit Sharma completed his 2019 with 1490 runs in the ODI format, the 8th most runs scorer in ODI cricket by any cricketer in a calendar year. Since the start of 2001, only Matthew Hayden has made 1601 in 2007, scoring more ODI runs in a calendar than Rohit.
  • As an opening batsman, Rohit Sharma has successfully scored 2442 runs in 2019. These are the most runs in international Cricket by an opening batsman in a calendar year. He broke Sanath Jayasuriya’s 2387 runs as an opening batsman for Sri Lanka in 1997.
