Sanju Samson In Zimbabwe T20I, Shubman Gill will captain a relatively inexperienced Indian team for an upcoming five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe next month. Four players – all-rounders Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy, middle-order batter Riyan Parag, and fast bowler Tushar Deshpande – have received their first call-up to the national side.

Sanju Samson, the senior-most player, will serve as wicketkeeper for the series, which will take place in Harare. The appointment of Rahul Dravid’s successor as head coach still pending in the pipe line till then, V.V.S. Laxman, the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy, is expected to accompany the team as the interim head coach.

Samson, who has not played in the USA or Caribbean matches aside from a warm-up game against Bangladesh, is included in the squad alongside wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Senior players currently participating in the T20 World Cup in the Americas, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, have been rested to prepare for a demanding season ahead.

In addition to Parag, Sharma, and Reddy, other notable IPL performers traveling to Zimbabwe are Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh.

The 15-member squad also tour with Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were on the bench during the T20 World Cup.
