Mitchell Marsh Fractures His Hand After Punching Dressing-Room Wall

Mitchell Marsh, the Australian all-rounder, broke his hand after punching a dressing-room wall in frustration during Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania on Sunday.

In the bargain, the son of former Australian opener, Geoff Marsh, fractured his right hand, ruling him out of cricket for six weeks. The Western Australian skipper, Marsh, was frustrated after being dismissed for 53 in the drawn match. This led him to take his anger out on the wall.

He was rushed to the hospital, where scans confirmed a fracture. He would like to be fit for Australia’s first Test against Pakistan that will begin on November 21. It will be a two-match series between Australia and the South Asian team.

Speaking to reporters, Marsh said, “It certainly will be an isolated incident… it won’t be happening again. It’s a good lesson for me, hopefully, it’s a good lesson for other people as well.”

He added, “At the end of the day it’s a game of cricket. Sometimes you get beaten, you get out, and you can’t be punching walls. As a captain, I’ve done a lot of work in setting a good example on and off the field over the last 18 months since I took over. This is a small hiccup for me.”

Marsh made a comeback to Australia’s test side in the final Ashes match against England last month. National coach Justin Langer, who has been in touch with him, was quoted by Marsh as saying, “He just told me I’m an idiot basically. He was disappointed for me.”

The 27-year-old concluded by saying, “Just the feeling of letting your team-mates down and not being able to be a part of the journey for the next four to six weeks, that was the point I wanted to stress to the lads, that I was sorry.”
