Is Rinku Singh the new finisher after Dhoni?

The search for a trustworthy finisher has been a recurring topic of conversation in the ever-changing landscape of Indian cricket. As the squad looks for ways to strengthen its middle order in limited-overs cricket, the emphasis has shifted to the potential talent of Rinku Singh.

Rinku Singh, a left-handed batsman from Uttar Pradesh, has made a name for himself in domestic cricket and has demonstrated his abilities on the grand stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and now in international arena.

Singh’s aggressive strokeplay and ability to accelerate the run rate coincide with the characteristics of a great finisher.

Is Rinku Singh the next great finisher for India after MS Dhoni?

Rinku has only appeared in six games for India, batting in three innings. In his most recent international appearance, he turned a last over cliffhanger into a comfortable ride for his team with a last ball six victory, comparable to what MS Dhoni used to do.

In a match that was played till the last ball, Rinku hit a six and gave India victory. Australia made a strong comeback in the last over, sending three of India’s batsmen to the tent. Akshar Patel was also included in it. The match seemed to be lost, but Rinku ended the match in his own style. Rinku hit a six to lead India to a thrilling victory.

The finisher’s work in a cricket team is crucial, needing a player who can handle pressure, complete innings with a flourish, and adapt to different match scenarios. Singh’s accomplishments in domestic cricket, as well as his memorable appearances in the IPL, have piqued the interest of both cricket fans and selectors.

What distinguishes Singh is not only his ability to score rapid runs, but also his calmness under pressure. A finisher must be a level-headed executioner capable of turning the tide in the team’s favour when the stakes are high. Singh’s demeanour and aggressive yet calculating approach qualify him for this critical post.
