Jofra Archer Undergoes Surgery After Freak Fish Tank Accident

On Monday, Jofra Archer undergoes surgery to remove a glass fragment from a tendon on his right hand after an attempt to clean his fish tank went wrong, England’s director of cricket Ashley Giles said.

Archer sustained the injury at his home in January and the injury was managed by England during its Test and T20 series in India. Jofra Archer missed the ODI series after his elbow injury deteriorated during the India tour. The elbow injury has put Jofra Archer’s IPL participation in doubt, with the England pacer flying back to England to undergo treatment for the long-term injury.

Ashey Giles Confirms Jofra Archer Had A Surgery This Time For Whole Different Reason

The England pacer had a successful operation on Monday for an entirely different reason. Ashley Giles, England’s director of cricket, confirmed the development on BBC’s Tuffers and Vaughan show.

“This is going to sound like an awful conspiracy and I know what’s going to happen on Twitter straight away when I say this. But it’s true, it’s not a conspiracy, it was a fish tank. He was cleaning at home. He’s got a fish tank, dropped the fish tank and cut his hand,” Giles told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He’s been in surgery today and he’s come out of it well. They’ve operated and actually, I think they found a small fragment of glass still in the tendon.”

The freak accident occurred at Archer’s home in Hove in January. The express pacer dropped the tropical fish tank in his bathroom, suffering a cut on his right middle finger. Doctors only discovered the glass piece when they investigated the injury after Archer flew back home.

Ashley Giles revealed how Jofra Archer played through the pain barrier for England. He’s come out of it well. It was managed through India. He was treated when he arrived and it wasn’t an open wound on that finger. It didn’t stop him from playing, but given he came home for an injection on his elbow, he went to a specialist because the finger was still a bit stiff”. Giles Added.

Rajasthan Royals will be fuming as Jofra Archer won’t be available in the first half of the IPL and is most likely to miss the second half in the recovery process. Jofra Archer was the key man of RR last year where he picked up 20 Wickets. Little do Rajasthan Royals know that Jofra Archer cannot be replaced by any other bowler.
