Virat Kohli Recalls The Incident When Ishant Sharma Received A Maiden Call Up

“When he was selected for India, he slept soundly in the afternoon and I had to kick and wake him up to tell him the news. That’s how far we go,” Kohli said. “We have great confidence between us. I am very happy that he has enjoyed his bowling over the years,” added the captain from India.

He also said it’s rare for a fast bowler to keep fit and show how tall Ishant can be – especially in the game’s longest format. “Great achievement in modern cricket to keep your body as it has and play 100 tests, it’s rare, especially among fast bowlers,” said Kohli. He also spoke about how it is rare for a fast bowler to maintain fitness and show the kind of longevity that Ishant has – especially in the longest format of the game.

“Great achievement in modern-day cricket to maintain your body like he has and play 100 Tests, it is rare especially among fast bowlers,” Kohli said. Kohli also said that Ishant could have prioritised limited-overs cricket, but he has given his full focus to Test cricket. Talking about Ishant’s career, he has picked up 302 wickets in Tests so far. The India star breached the 300-wicket mark during the second Test in Chennai. Ishant has also played 80 ODIs and 14 T20Is so far, taking a total of 123 wickets.

India and England go into the third Test with the series tied at 1-1 and with a place in the World Test Championship final on the line. 3rd Test match starts tomorrow at 2:30 pm which is a day/night test match.
