5 Teams Who Qualified For The PlayOffs Most Times?

The see-saw nature of the IPL 2021 continued right till the last league game. Kolkata Knight Riders joined the likes of Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the playoffs. Their superior Net run rate proved too steep a mountain for Mumbai Indians to overcome. MI, the double defending champions were thus knocked out from the tournament. This was KKR’s 7th playoff qualification in the 14 seasons of IPL. Here is all about 5 Teams Who Qualified For The PlayOffs Most Times?

#5 Kolkata Knight Riders (7)

Kolkata Knight Riders were once the laughing stock of the IPL. They finished 6th, 8th, and 6th in the first 3 seasons of the IPL. It was only after a major overhaul in 2011 that KKR became a strong force. The appointment of Gautam Gambhir was a watershed moment in KKR’s history. He led the team to the playoff for the very first time in 2011. KKR went one better in 2012 and 2014 when they won the title. KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs narrowly in both 2019 and 2020. They made it this season and it was the 7th time that they qualified for the playoffs.

Years qualified: 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021

#4 Royal Challengers Bangalore (7)

The Royal Challengers Bangalore are often ridiculed for not winning the IPL. But they have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL. They reached the finals on three occasions (2009, 2011, and 2016) and qualified for the playoffs 7 times in the 14 seasons. RCB will be looking to take that one giant leap towards the coveted prize.

Years qualified: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2020, and 2021

#3 Sunrisers Hyderabad (8)

Sunrisers Hyderabad finished 8th in the league stage in IPL 2021. The last time they finished last was during the first edition when they were known as the Deccan Chargers. SRH had a forgettable 2021 season where they played quite unlike themselves. It was the first time in the last 6 seasons where SRH failed to qualify for the playoffs. But even then they have an enviable record of making the playoffs 8 number of times.

Years qualified: 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020

#2 Mumbai Indians (9)

It might come as a surprise to many that the most successful team in the IPL are second on the list of making the playoffs most number of times. Mumbai Indians record post-qualifying for the playoffs is insane. They won 5 titles in 8 years. But they failed to qualify this season thereby missing out on the opportunity to become the first team to register a hat-trick of IPL titles. This doesn’t take away the fact that MI continue to be one of the strongest franchises in the competition. They made the playoffs 9 times in 14 seasons.

Years qualified: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020

#1 Chennai Super Kings (11)

There is a reason why the Chennai Super Kings are called the most consistent team of the IPL. They hold the record for making the playoffs most number of times. CSK became the first team this season to enter the playoffs. It was their 11th playoff entry in 12 IPL seasons as CSK was barred for 2 years (2016-17). No other team has even crossed the double-figure mark while CSK are already on 11 playoff qualifications!

Years qualified: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2021
