RCB vs PBKS Match Summary:
Punjab Kings kept their IPL 2022 playoff hopes alive with a 54-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday; collecting their sixth win of the season in the process.
After a dismal showing against Rajasthan Royals in the previous match, the Punjab Kings’ performance against Bangalore on Friday was a breath of fresh air for the team and their fans.
The Mayank Agarwal-led side set a huge 210 runs target for Bangalore, which they were unable to chase and lost the game by 54 runs.
Chasing the target of 210, RCB made a flying start with 31 runs in the 3 overs, but suddenly the momentum shifted towards Punjab’s side when their bowlers took three quick wickets. First Rabada dismissed Virat Kohli. In the next over, Rishi Dhawan got rid of the skipper FAF du Plessis and trapped Mahipal Lomror in the same over.
After five overs RCB were 41 for 3, Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell though continued to play their natural game and keep the scoreboard tickling in a big run-chase game. Both added 64 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Rajat Patidar was caught on Log on in the last ball of the eleventh over, and in the second ball of the next over Glenn Maxwell too got out when trying to clear the log-off.
The RCB then only managed to score 51 runs in 52 balls and lost the game by big of margin 54 runs.
Earlier, Punjab was invited to bat first and they take invitation with both hands as both their openers Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan provided them a monstrous start. Shikhar, on one end doing the anchor role before Glenn Maxwell, broke the super splendid 60-run partnership by cleaning up Dhawan for 21 off 15 balls.
Bairstow, on the other hand, was unstoppable and completed his half-century in just deliveries and took Punjab to 83 in 6 overs. This was the highest score recorded for any team during the power play overs in this season of IPL. RCB’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga struck in his first over to send back countryman Bhanuka Rajapaksa.
In the second ball of 10th over, Shahbaz Ahmed trapped the hulk Jonny Bairstow in sliced outside the off stump delivery. Liam Livingstone and Mayank Agarwal steadied the Punjab’s innings once again by adding 51 runs before the Harshal Patel dismissed the skipper Mayank Agarwal.
In the last five overs, the hard-hitter Liam Livingstone took the charge and played some sensational cricket to help his team cross 200 mark. He was out in the 20th over when trying to hit from the top of keeper but mistimed the lower full toss bowled by Harshal Patel and was caught by Dinesh Karthik. But he did his job perfectly well as with his 42 balls 70-run he guide his team to 209/9 in 20 overs.
For RCB, Harshal Patel took 4 wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga bagged 2, while Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed took 1-1 each.
