The battle of giants between currently 2nd and 3rd place teams in IPL 2022 ended in Rajasthan’s favour as the Royals beat the team of nawabs by 24 runs to keep up their confidence for the upcoming challenges.

179 was not a massive total to chase, but Trent Boult of RR came with some other plans and shacked the LSG’s boat in the third over by removing Quinton de Kock and Ayush Badoni.

Captain Rahul failed to help his team and was out after scoring just 10 runs. Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya then put on a 65-run stand to get Lucknow back into the game but the clever spinner Ashwin dismissed Krunal in the first ball of the 14th over to provide RR a breakthrough.

Team Lucknow was at 116 runs when Deepak Hooda 59 (39), who had hit the most runs for LSG in the game, was dismissed, and after that, the rest of the players could only manage 38 runs as the Rahul-led side lost by 24 runs.

After losing the orange cap holder Jos Butler early, the young Yashasvi and the skipper did a solid partnership and bring back Rajasthan on track. Both added 64 runs for the second wicket before Jason Holder removed Samson (32). Two overs later, Yashasvi Jaiswal was caught and ball by Ayush Badoni, which put Rajasthan on the back foot.

However, Devdutt Padikkal’s blistering knock of 39 runs in 18 balls and a minor 19-run contribution from Riyan Parag help Rajasthan to a respectable position. While Jimmy Neesham (12), Ravichandran Ashwin (10*), and Boult’s (17*) played crucial roles in Rajasthan’s effective total, with a handy 40 runs in the death overs helping Rajasthan to post 178 on board.

For LSG, Ravi Bishnoi took 2 wickets, while Avesh Khan, Jason Holder and Ayush Badoni scalped 1-1 each.

Player of the match – Trent Boult
