IPL 2020 Could Be Held Behind Closed Doors: Reports

The entire sporting world turned upside down last month when the coronavirus-induced pandemic caused unforeseen scenarios, and so all International cricket was indefinitely postponed and subsequently even the BCCI too postponed the high-profile Indian Premier League until April 15. The fate of the 13th edition of the money-rich game, however, still remains doubtful.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is exploring alternate options for carrying out the T20 league tournament, albeit somewhat delayed, according to the most recent report. The board can move hosting the IPL 2020 to July this year, at the earliest, according to a BCCI source. The matches may need to be played in front of empty stands for this to happen.

“The board is looking at an alternate window to host matches, probably in July or latest in winter,” a BCCI official told reporters under anonymity condition.

According to the same source, it could also mean that the matches of the IPL could also be played behind closed doors, “but only as a last resort,” said the official above.

“If the lockdown is prolonged, it will be difficult until the beginning of June to have a full-fledged IPL in the current window,” said another senior official at the BCCI.

Cricket Boards To Reschedule Cricket Calendar:

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, the cricket boards had suspended all forms of national, International and domestic Cricket. The most awaited tournament of IPL 2020 was also suspended till 15th April, and now the talks have been doing round the corner that, the BCCI management is looking for October – November to conduct the tournament.

In the mean time, the cricket players have been using the forced break imposed upon them in the most creative way possible. While some preferred to spend quality time with their family, on the other hand, the rest were seen exploring their creative side and introspecting on their fitness on their upcoming tournaments.
