5 Indian Batsmen With Most International Runs

Indian Batsmen With Most International Runs: Indian cricket is a gift that keeps giving. It keeps producing the greatest of batsmen from time to time. The annals of Indian cricket are filled with batting greatness. From the era of Sunil Gavaskar to Shubman Gill, the list is never-ending. In fact, it was the original master blaster, Sunil Gavaskar, who became the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Sachin Tendulkar took over from Gavaskar and the mantle just keeps passing.

We look at the top 5 Indian Batsmen With Most International Runs:

#5 MS Dhoni – 17,092 runs

He is the only middle-order batsman to feature on this list. MS Dhoni could have broken more records had he chosen to play in the top-order more. He finished with 17,092 runs nevertheless. Dhoni’s most preferred formats though came in white-ball. He found himself at home in the ODIs, especially with a clearly defined role. Dhoni scored over 10,000 runs (10,773) in the ODIs comprising 10 centuries.

#4 Sourav Ganguly – 18,433 runs

He was regarded as the GOD on the off-side. Sourav Ganguly remains one of the finest stroke makers that India has ever produced. It is argued that if not for captaincy, Ganguly would have had more runs under his belt. He finished his career with a total of 18,433 runs comprising 38 centuries (16 in Tests and 22 in ODIs). Ganguly is one of the select Indian batsmen to score above 10,000 runs in ODIs.

#3 Rahul Dravid – 24,064 runs

He was known as Mr. Dependable. Rahul Dravid’s technique was highly gushed about. He was known to be a wall whose fort was hard to breach. Dravid is among the elite few who notched up 10,000 runs across both formats (Tests and ODIs). He averaged 52.3 in Tests scoring 13,288 runs while he averaged 39.2 in ODIs accumulating 10,889 runs in ODIs. Dravid long held the second position on this list scoring 24,064 runs overall.

#2 Virat Kohli – 24,078 runs

He recently broke Rahul Dravid’s long-standing record for the most number of international runs as an Indian batsman. Virat Kohli is currently second on this list scoring 24,078 runs in total. He has a good 2-3 years of cricket left within.

Kohli’s half the number of runs have come in the ODI format (12,344) at an insane average of 57.7. He averages 50.8 in T20Is scoring 3660 runs. His numbers in Tests are mighty impressive too as he has amassed 8074 runs at an average of 49.5.

#1 Sachin Tendulkar – 34,357 runs

There could have been only one player headlining this list. He could have been none other than Sachin Tendulkar. Nobody has scored more runs in either Tests or ODIs. Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs in Tests at an average of 53.8. He has smashed 18,426 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.8. Tendulkar finished with a huge 34,357 runs.
