Ashwin Takes Five As India Dominate West Indies, Virat Close to Break Records on Day 2

India Vs West Indies 1st Test Highlights:

After being dropped from the Indian team for the WTC final last month, Ravichandran Ashwin rejoined the squad on Wednesday and recorded his 33rd five-wicket haul to give India the advantage over a weak West Indies on the opening day of the first Test.

West Indies were reduced to a meagre 150 in 64.3 overs thanks to Ashwin’s five wicket haul for 60 runs in 24.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (3/26) also contributed with wickets.

At the top of the order, skipper Rohit Sharma (batting on 30) and rookie Yashasvi Jaiswal (batting 40 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 80 runs to reduce the first innings deficit to 70 runs going into the second day.

IND vs WI Day 2 Preview: Virat Kohli Inches close to surpass legends

On the Start of the Day 2, The opening pair is on the crease with no loss and will look to continue the batting streak with and ease on the Caribbean soil, if wickets fall and Virat Kohli will be in. The cricketer will be seen breaking the legends record in this tour of West Indies.

Virat Kohli will surpass the 8500-run mark in Tests and join the select group of the top 5 run scorers for India in Test cricket if he manages to score at least 25 runs in the current IND versus WI Test series.

With 8479 runs, Kohli is now ranked sixth in the world. Virender Sehwag, a former opener for India, is currently ranked fifth with 8503 Test runs. Just 25 runs separate Kohli from Sehwag as the fifth-highest scorer for India in Test matches.

Also, Virat Kohli would surpass West Indies great Viv Richards (8540 Test runs) in the list of batsmen with the most runs in Test cricket history if he manages to score 62 or more runs during the IND vs WI Test series. When Kohli hits 62 runs, he will move up to position 26 on the elite list. With 15,921 runs, Sachin Tendulkar tops the list.
