India Beat New Zealand In The 1st T20I To Seize 1-0 Lead

The first Twenty20 International involving India and New Zealand took place on Wednesday, November 17, and was a close contest. After so many twists and turns, the Men in Blue won by 5 wickets with 2 balls remaining at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Despite winning the toss and electing to bat first, India got off to a flying start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Daryl Mitchell for a golden duck. Mark Chapman and Martin Guptill took over after that, and the Black Caps scored 41 runs on the powerplay. The pair kept going, putting on a 109-run stand for the 2nd wicket in 12.5 overs.

Chapman scored his first half-century for the Kiwis from 45 balls, displaying his prowess. Ravi Ashwin, who also sent Glenn Phillips back for a duck, took advantage of the southpaw. Guptill, on the other hand, scored at a run-a-ball for his first 20 balls before stepping on the accelerator. The experienced smashed 70 off 42 with 3 fours and 4 sixes, boosting his team to a 164-6.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma  Rahul got India off to a flying start, putting on a 50-run partnership in 5.1 overs. Rahul hit a 4 and a 6 to reach 15 before being dismissed by Mitchell Santner. India produced 56 runs on the powerplay, lowering the needed run rate to 7.71. The Men in Blue were in control at the halfway point, despite scoring 85 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav joined him and continued his job. Trent Boult removed Rohit after a 59-run partnership. Rohit struck 48 off 36 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Meanwhile, Yadav reached his 50 off 34 balls with a 6 off Lockie Ferguson. Upon scoring 62 off 40, he remained Boult’s 2nd victim. Rishabh Pant hammered Mitchell for a 4 overhead, securing India the victory.
