Shreyas Iyer has now become the 16th Indian batsman to score a century on his Test debut – he has crossed this landmark on Day 2 of the 1st Test between India vs New Zealand.

Iyer has marked his Test arrival in style with a century – He has replaced skipper Virat Kohli for the 1st Test at Kanpur. On Day-1 he has remained 75 unbeaten and was looking in good shape.

And with this 100 he has now become the 16th Indian batsman to do so at home. Prithvi Shaw was the last Indian to achieve the feat and was also the youngest in the country.

He has now joined the elite list of players who have scored a hundred on Test debut are: Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan.d

The 26-year-old has made his debut in the T20Is and ODI format back in 2017 and unfortunately he had to wait for a long time to gain his maiden Test Cap. He had an excellent run in first-class cricket and scored 4592 runs at an average of 52.18 with 12 centuries and 23 fifties.

Shreyas career growth in Indian cricket has grown very rapidly in just a small gap of 2-3 years. The middle-order batsmen have also led the Delhi Capitals side and due to Injury issues he was prevented from earning a spot in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2021 but he was among the reserves.
