ICC Launches New ODI Super League For World Cup 2023 Qualification

This week, a new one-day international Super League will be held:

The ICC has declared that to decide qualification on the 2023 World Cup, a new one-day international super league will start this week. There will be a one-day international match happen between Ireland and England on Thursday in Southampton and that will be the first match of the 13-countries tournament, with World Cup hosts India along with the next seven highest-placed squads automatically qualified for the 2023 World Cup.

The 12 members of ICC and the Netherland will be taking part with every team playing four numbers of home and four away three-match series.

The COVID-19 pandemic has destroyed the cricket calendar. That’s why the Super League also postponed. The ICC said that they are working with the national cricket boards to get confirmed dates for the Super League series.

Geoff Allardice, the general manager of ICC said “Last week, the decision to shift 2023 World Cup provides us enough time to schedule the lost games because of COVID-19 and reserve the truthfulness of the qualification procedure. It means that it will be decided based on the importance of the match.”

Based upon the last qualification process for last year’s World Cup, which was held in England, the leading eight sides in the ICC rankings were joined by the leading two teams from a qualifying match to build the 10-team tournament.

Eoin Morgan Statement:

Eoin Morgan, the limited-overs captain of team England said “We are excited to play cricket again and to participate in the ICC men’s World Cup Super League. Providing the situation, it will be entirely different from the last time we played in England when we titled the 2019 World Cup at Lord’s, but it is good to begin our journey for the next World Cup edition.”

Andrew Balbirnie Staement:

Andrew Balbirnie, skipper of Ireland team said: “Undoubtedly it is going to be a major challenge playing with the team that already won the last World Cup, but we have prepared well and we are quite confident that we can give them a tough competition.”
