IND vs ENG Match Summary Match 29 World Cup 2023: India’s Finest Win So Far

IND vs ENG Match Summary: India started favourites in the game against England. They had won 5 out of 5 while England on the other hand lost 4 out of their 5 games. It was tipped to be a game between superstars across two sides. The match being played in the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow added to the atmosphere. It was a packed house with 50,000 seats backing the home side. Nobody though could predict the eventual result.

England put early pressure on India:

Jos Buttler, won the toss and put India into bat. It was the first time in 6 games that India was going to set a target. The decision to field first from Buttler seemed interesting as it was a used pitch and appeared too paced. England’s new ball bowlers adapted to the pitch quickly.

Chris Woakes removed Shubman will an in-dipper. David Willey prized out Virat Kohli after stringing a bunch of dots. India at the end of the powerplay were 35-2. They soon lost Shreyas Iyer to an unnecessary stroke. At 40-3, India was well and truly under the pump.

IND vs ENG Match Summary

Rohit & Rahul rebuild:

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, reined himself in after a brief opening blitz. He along with KL Rahul steadied India’s ship. The pair hardly took any unnecessary risk in the 10-20 over phase. It was only in the 20-30 over period where both the batters looked for boundary opportunities. Sharma reached a well-deserved fifty while Rahul looked solid for a big one. But just out of nowhere, Rahul threw away his wicket after stitching a partnership of 91. India again had to go into the defensive as they were just two wickets away from their tail.

Surya impresses but India fail to get the final flourish:

Rohit Sharma found an able ally in Suryakumar Yadav. India looked set to post a score around 250 but lost Sharma at the wrong time. Ravindra Jadeja soon departed leaving SKY to anchor the tail. He did try to up the ante but couldn’t stay till the end. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav put an unbeaten partnership to take India to 229. The total looked 20-30 short of what would have been a par score.

English openers started briskly:

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan started the chase in a brisk fashion. Malan especially took a liking to Mohammad Siraj, who appeared off colour right from ball one. At 30-0 in 4.4 overs, it appeared that England is back to their bullish best. But Jasprit Bumrah got Malan to drag one to the stumps from round the wicket. He bowled a terrific first ball to trap Joe Root plumb in front.

The Shami Show:

Rohit Sharma is one of the finest when it comes to reading the pulse of the game. He introduced Mohammad Shami in the sixth over replacing Siraj. Shami started firing his cannon with bunch of unplayable balls to Ben Stokes. England’s MVP of the 2019 World Cup appeared all at sea tackling Shami. It was about time that Shami would get his first wicket and he removed Stokes with a one that followed him. He got Bairstow to edge one onto the stumps.

Kuldeep takes over and India finish clinically:

It was against England in 2019 when Kuldeep Yadav was taken to the cleaners and eventually went out of favour. He exacted revenge in the best possible way bowling the England captain with an absolute ripper. Kuldeep got Liam Livingstone too,  thereby killing any chance of an English revival. Shami returned to pick Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid while Bumrah dismantled Mark Wood to hand India a 100-run win.

Why this win is India’s finest so far?

It was for the first time that India was put under immense pressure. They had to bat first on a challenging wicket and ended up with a score that seemed to be 20-30 runs short. India had 5 bowlers to play with against an English side who batted till number 11.

The home side overcame all odds to put on a spectacular show knocking winds out of England’s sails. It was arguably one of the finest displays of seam bowling from an Indian pair on Indian soil. India easily look the best side in the competition. This win against England just reaffirmed why!
