Australia hitter David Warner finds himself in a problem after failing to score runs at any stage. With the exception of surrendering his leadership with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he also lost his spot in their playing XI. The experienced struggled to find form in the T20 WC 2021 warm-up games, registering 0 and 1 versus New Zealand and India, accordingly.

He vowed 3 fours before being sent out in Australia’s first Super 12 match versus South Africa. He did, therefore, return to form versus Sri Lanka on Thursday, leading his side to a seven-wicket victory. Despite not receiving the Player of the Match honor, Warner earned appreciation after hitting 65 off 42 including 10 fours.

‘Shutting the critics down’ never let it get to you: David Warner

With a reverse-sweep through the 3rd man zone, Warner scored his first edge against Maheesh Theekshana. It was the exact stroke that took him out in one of the practice matches against Ravi Ashwin. The lefty described the stroke as “low-risk,” recognizing the significance of applying pressure on the bowlers.

I got criticized when I got out to Ashwin in the practice game playing the same shot. We know which bowlers are bowling what, we know where the fields are and we know how to try and apply pressure. If it comes off, it comes off,” Warner said after the match.

When they’re coming over the wicket, they’ve obviously got their carrom ball to come straight down the line. For me, it’s actually a low-risk shot to go with the spin and because you’ve only got two (fielders) out to protect, you’ve got to back yourself. It’s a shot that I favor. You’ve got to apply pressure and that’s how I start my innings against spin,” he stated.

Warner has also stated that he does not believe in performing to shut critics. Rather, he likes to take disappointments in spirit and move on. “Shutting the critics down? No, never. That’s the world of sport. When you ride the highs, you’ve got to ride the lows and you’ve got to stay confident, keep a smile on your face, and never let it get to you,” David  Warner added.
