Hardik Pandya ruled out of World Cup 2023

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirms Prasidh Krishna as Hardik’s replacement, adding that he is available for selection in the playing XI.

Team India and fans had hoped that Hardik Pandya would recover from the ankle injury he suffered against Bangladesh, but their worst dread was realized on Saturday morning, when the star all-rounder was declared out of the rest of the Cricket World Cup.

But what does Hardik Pandya’s absence mean for Team India going forward in the tournament?

The All Rounder was making good progress in his recovery at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma and the team management had hoped to have him in the team near the semi-finals, but that will not be the case.

Hardik’s injury, on the other hand, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Team India, as it opened the way for Mohammed Shami. The pacer dominated the World Cup, taking 14 wickets in his first two matches and cementing his spot in the playing XI.

Even if Hardik had returned, it would not have been at the expense of a healthy Shami. His removal also allowed Surya Kumar Yadav to make his ODI World Cup debut, albeit he failed to impress. If Hardik had returned, he might have replaced Surya, giving Rohit a total of six bowling options.

As of Now, Team India has found a way to survive without the all-rounder, and as things stand, Hardik’s absence should not harm the Men in Blue, who have demolished opponents in this tournament without him.
