GT vs MI Highlights: Gujarat Titans opened their account with a win under new captain after beating Mumbai Indians by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.  

MI mounted a strong comeback in the first innings of the match in which Gujarat thought to be in complete control at times. Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for Mumbai with 3 wickets, Coetzee bagged 2, as the team restricted GT to 168 in 20 overs.  

Chasing a target of 169, former skipper Rohit and overseas power hitter Brevis managed to rescue the side from early breakthroughs, but they unable to drive their side to victory, leaving the team in trouble, from where MI failed recover and lost the game, recording their 12th straight loss in IPL openers.

Inviting to bat first, Hardik Pandya took the ball in his hand to bowl the first over of the innings, Gujarat Titan’s Wriddhiman Saha welcomed him with a four.  

The duo of Saha and Shubman looked in fine touch before Jasprit Bumrah finally provided MI with a breakthrough by removing Saha for 19.  

GT’s new skipper Shubman Gill (31) was caught by MI’s ex-skipper at the log on when he was trying to clear the fence.  

Asmatullah Omarzai (17) and David Miller (12) failed to leave an impact, while GT’s top-scorer in the game Sai Sudarshan (45) also left the crease when the Titans were at 134 in 16.3.  

However, Rahul Tewatia’s handy 22 guided the host side to put 168 on board in 20 overs.  

Mumbai’s premium bowler Jasprit Bumrah bagged the most wickets for them with 3 wickets while giving 14 runs in 4 overs. Debutant Coetzee also dismissed 2 batters.  

Mumbai to chase 169 to win match 5 of IPL 2024  

Mumbai Indians, in reply, faced a shock after their star batter Ishan Kishan walked back to pavilion for duck.  

Came at number 3, Naman Dhir showed some signs of destructiveness with 3 fours and a maximum, but he failed to convert, which put the tourist team in some pressure.  

Former skipper Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis then rescued the side with their 67-run stand for the third wicket before Sai Kishore got the wicket of Rohit for 43.  

Dewald Brevis followed Rohit’s route and left the team under pressure, Tilak Varma (21) and Hardik Pandya’s (11) did try their best but that wasn’t enough to help their side win the game.
